Why I built it
I have years of handwritten journals, one notebook per quarter, on a shelf in my home office. I know exactly where they are. That has never once been enough. I am usually somewhere else when I want something out of them, and I am rarely sure which quarter it was in.
Every app that solves this asks you to stop writing by hand and type into it instead. That does work. I did not want it, because the writing is where I do the thinking.
So for a long time I ran a workaround: Goodnotes, export, drop the PDF into Notion, have Notion AI pull the text out, then retype the tasks. It kept the notes reachable. It also flattened the messy thinking into tidy rows and threw the rest away.
Penlog is what I built instead. You write your day by hand on an iPad. It reads your notation, so a task you write stays a task, and it carries forward onto the next day's page until you cross it off. If you want more than that, your Notion and your AI assistants can read the page and write back to it.
Who's behind it
Penlog is a one-person company, RT Indianapolis Holdings LLC. I have spent 25 years building software products, most recently as a product leader at Salesforce on Commerce Cloud and Marketing Cloud. Early on I designed and scaled the REST APIs behind guided-selling tools used by large retailers, which is a big part of why Penlog was built API-first.
Penlog has been on the App Store since June 2026, and I use it every day. I read every message to support@penlog.app.
